Service Overview
The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine is a combination vaccine that protects against three different viral diseases. The vaccine contains small amounts of weakened or inactivated viruses that trigger the immune system to produce antibodies that protect against future infections. The MMR vaccine is typically given in two doses. The first dose is given at 12 months of age, and the second dose is given at 15 months of age. In some cases, the vaccine may also be given to adults who have never had the disease or the vaccine. The MMR vaccine is highly effective in preventing these diseases and their complications. It is an important part of routine childhood immunization schedules and is recommended for all children, unless they have a medical reason for not receiving it.
