This medication is used to treat diarrhoea in adults and in children/infants in addition to oral rehydration. It is also used to treat pain associated with digestive disorders affecting the oesophagus, stomach and/or intestine.

Directions For Use/Usage Recommendation:

  • Treatment of acute diarrhoea
  • 2 years and older: 6 g (2 sachets) per day. The dose may be doubled in the initial phase of acute diarrhoea.
  • Adults: 9g (3 sachets) a day. The dose may be doubled in the initial phase of acute diarrhoea.

Key Ingredients: 

Per sachet - Dioctahedral Smectite 3g

Diosmectite, Glucose Monohydrate, Saccharine Sodium, Orange-Vanilla Flavour (Containing Sucrose) 

Safety Information/Warnings:

  • Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using Smecta:
    • if you have been told by your doctor that you have an intolerance to certain sugars,
    • if you have previously suffered from acute constipation.
  • Infants and children under 2 years of age: the use of Smecta should be avoided.
  • Children 2 years of age and older: Smecta may only be used in acute diarrhea with concomitant oral rehydration solution. Chronic use of Smecta should be avoided.

Consult your doctor:

  • if the symptoms of acute diarrhoea are not relieved within three days
  • if high fever or vomiting are accompanied by pain.
